There was a time after the birth of our daughter when my light felt like it had gone out. I moved through days feeling as though I were drowning in an invisible sea, searching for a way back to myself while trying to remain whole. The darkness felt endless, and even in the midst of it, life kept moving. I still had to show up, keep going, and be the best version of myself that I could manage, even when it felt impossible.
Yet somewhere beneath the exhaustion and the weight of it all, there was still a spark that wanted to survive.
During that season, a dear friend reminded me of who I was when I had forgotten. Her words became a lifeline. She may never fully know how much they carried me, but they helped me find my way back to the fire that was still burning inside.
I created this painting to honor those words and to preserve that reminder forever. It is a testament to resilience, to the strength that remains even when we can’t see it, and to the quiet courage it takes to keep going.
Fire Inside is for anyone who has ever felt lost, overwhelmed, or buried beneath the weight of their own thoughts. Mental health struggles do not make us weak—they make us human. My hope is that this piece reminds those who are carrying something heavy that they are deeply valuable, deeply loved, and stronger than they know.
