LaKendra Huckaby is a Southern-born visual artist, designer, and community-centered creative dedicated to using art as a tool for connection, healing, and accessibility. Based in Columbus, Georgia, her work exists at the intersection of creativity and care—creating spaces where art feels welcoming, expressive, and deeply human.
Her artistic journey has evolved from painting in her hometown to designing large-scale visual work across Georgia, collaborating with nationally recognized creatives, and creating pieces that have appeared on red carpets and in global publications. Her work has been featured by platforms such as Afropunk and internationally across digital media, gaining recognition for its bold expression and emotional depth.
In 2023, LaKendra created a tribute painting honoring blues legend Ma Rainey during the Grammy Lifetime Achievement celebrations in her hometown. The piece was unveiled at Ma Rainey’s historic home—now a protected national landmark—where it remains as part of its cultural legacy.
That same year, she began a creative partnership with Caroline Wanga, CEO of Essence Ventures, after winning a national art competition. This collaboration grew into an Artist-in-Residence role, leading to a limited-edition collection, a custom-designed red carpet garment, and the cover design for Wanga’s debut book, I’m Highly Percent Sure, now distributed internationally.
In 2025, LaKendra was invited to speak during her city’s MLK celebration alongside influential artists and leaders, contributing to conversations on the role of creativity in shaping culture and community.
While her work continues to expand, her focus remains rooted locally. Through free community art events, youth mural projects, and accessible art classes, she is committed to making creativity available to those who need it most. She is also the founder of Gentle Flow, a nonprofit initiative supporting postpartum mothers, children, and families through art-centered programs designed to foster healing, expression, and connection.
At the core of everything she creates is a simple belief: art should be accessible, meaningful, and shared—and that creative spaces have the power to bring people back to themselves and to each other.
